Interception of Malocclusion in the Mixed Dentition with Prefabricated Appliances and Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy

This article reports the use of Myobrace® appliances, in conjunction with orofacial myofunctional therapy, for the effective early treatment of a developing malocclusion (Class II, division 2 incisor relationship) in the mixed dentition. The Myobrace® appliances used are prefabricated functional appliances with tooth positioning and myofunctional training characteristics. Myofunctional therapy-through the Myobrace ActivitiesTM protocol-was implemented in this case for the treatment of incorrect oral habits, such as abnormal lip function. The results showed that an early approach in selected cases, taking also into account patient preferences and compliance, is possible and could be considered in treatment planning and relevant future research.
